EXTON, Pa. — On Saturday, March 16, Delaware Valley Hockey League (DVHL) 8U players took to the ice for a USA Hockey-sanctioned full-ice transition event at Power Play Ice Rink. Aptly named the "Great 8 Shootout", teams were composed of strong 8-year-old players from the league who are moving up to 10U divisions next season. Two from each member organization got to show off their skills and play-making abilities before a packed house.
Power Play General Manager Jeff Grable put this event together, piggybacking on the success of the Atlantic Affiliate’s 8U transition event held several weeks earlier. The dynamic young players put on a show, with impressive shot making, goalies making acrobatic saves, D-to-D passing in the neutral zone and shooters scoring "bar down” on a number of occasions. The players showed that they are being coached to their potential following the important higher rate of touches during half-ice games and small area drills in practice.
At the conclusion of the game, there was a shootout pitting shooters against goalies. When the dust cleared, Central Penn Panthers Chance Booth scored the most goals and Quakers goalie Lincoln Capozzoli had the most saves.
