ASTON, Penn. — The first day of the DVHL playoffs met every one of our wildest expectations. The action was fast and furious, and it included a jaw-dropping upset that could alter the rest of the playoffs.

14U AA Division

We saw what could be the biggest upset of the entire season during the first 14U AA matchup, as the Campus Wild handed the Genesis Hockey Club their first loss. Campus Wild had just two wins in the entire season to this point, but managed to turn the entire tournament upside down with this sensational 3-2 victory. They’ll now advance to face the second seed Snider Hockey, who defeated the Delco Phantoms in their own first round match. The formerly undefeated Genesis Hockey Club is doubtless reeling, but they still have a chance to battle their way back to the finals via the consolation bracket. They’ll face the Delco Falcons.

18U AA Division

The 18U AA division had some exciting action across the board, as the third seed Quakers were able to knock off the second seed Central Penn Panthers. The Quakers were propelled by a sensational second period that saw them outscore the Panthers 2-0. The Panthers were able to add a goal towards the end of the game, but the Quakers tacked on one of their own to make it a 3-1 victory. They’ll advance to the Winner’s Bracket, where they’ll face the first seed Genesis Hockey Club, who took care of business in their own first round matchup against Snider Hockey. It was a close, 3-2 affair heading into the third period. Snider Hockey seemed within striking distance of stealing the game, but Genesis Hockey Club found another gear in the third, scoring three unanswered goals to win 6-2. The Panthers and Snider Hockey, while defeated, still have a chance to make the finals, but they’ll have to win out in the consolation bracket.
