Playoffs Notebook: Weekend 2, Day 2

ASTON, Pa. – The playoffs for the 16U and 18U divisions of the DVHL continued at IceWorks Saturday with teams vying for a spot in the championships through a double-elimination bracket.

In an invigorating 16U AA game, the Exton Kings took on Genesis Hockey Club. The Kings dominated the first period and first half of the second period with two goals by Aleks Kepiro and Silas Defibaugh. Genesis shifted the tide of the game during the end of the second period when Zane Sanders scored a powerplay goal. Sanders would then send the game to overtime with a crucial third period goal. The Kings were able to settle themselves down and revert to their first period play during overtime. Jeffrey Kvecher would go on to score the game-winning goal for the Kings to give them the 3-2 victory over Genesis.


Quakers Youth Hockey faced off against the Wilkes-Barre Jr. Pens in a thrilling 18AA match. The two sides would go back and forth offensively throughout this game. The Jr. Pens took an early lead with a goal by Gavin Weisgable, but the Quakers fought back with a goal by Anthony Kulp. The teams continued to exchange goals, with DJ Zimmerman and Kevin Hudak scoring powerplay goals. In the end, the Quakers would emerge victorious thanks to goals by Sean Stevenson and Caiden Canale during the third period.

At the 16A level, the Jr. Pens clashed with the Delco Phantoms. The Jr. Pens dominated the first period with three goals by Gabriel Fatula, Joseph Lipinski and Logan Smith, while the Phantoms scored one goal by Vincenzo Colonna. The Phantoms made a comeback in the second period with goals by Alexander Pitel and Chase Sammartino, tying the game going into the third period. The Jr. Pens sealed their victory with back-to-back goals by Mack Weisgable and Lipinski.

These playoffs feature talented players who are building up to a thrilling championship.
