ASTON, Pa. — It’s getting crowded at the top 14U A American Division, as the top teams jockey for pole position. The result of this weekend’s games will go a long way towards determining who will take the division crown.
Delco Phantoms vs. Wilkes-Barre Jr. Pens
The first place Delco Phantoms take on the fifth place Wilkes-Barre Jr. Pens in a game that could go a long way towards determining the outcome of either team’s season. On one hand, the Phantoms have yet to be beaten, with a tie being the lone blemish on their otherwise perfect record. Not only does their streak hang in the balance, but their #1 divisional ranking potentially does as well, as one loss is all that separates them from second place. The Pens are currently 2-3, but a win over the division’s top team would do wonders for both their record and their momentum.
Delmarva Raptors vs. Exton Kings
The second ranked team, the Delmarva Raptors, are looking to keep with the Phantoms by continuing their winning ways. They’ve only suffered one loss so far this year, and they’ve scored the most goals of any team in the division. The seventh place Exton Kings will be looking to play spoiler and get their season back on track. In their lone win this year, the Kings scorched the net with seven goals, so they’re capable of putting points on the board. They’ll need a similar performance this weekend if they want to pull off the upset.
Delaware Jr. Blue Hens vs. Quakers
The Delaware Jr. Blue Hens could be a sleeper team in this division. They’ve played the least number of games (four) of anyone in the division, and they’re 2-2, so they’ve flown somewhat under the radar thus far. However, they have a +5 goal differential on the year, and their only two losses of the season were to the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the division. If you were to bet on any team making a late push this year, the Blue Hens would be a solid gamble. They’ll have a chance to state their case even further against the Quakers, who’ve only been able to muster one win so far.
